A Weekend in Taupo

After a 3 and a half hour drive and a quick stop for dinner we arrived in our holiday home in Taupo for a nice weekend break. We arrived just in time for a walk on the lake to see the sunset.

The next morning we got up nice and early to hike to the top of a mountain close by called Te Urewera. Β When we reached the top we were surround in clouds.

Fortunately it was also very windy and the views between the cloud were amazing! We could see across lake Taupo to the snowy Mountains and across to the beautiful East Coast.

Felt like we were on top on the world!

That afternoon we headed out again to see the famous Huka Falls. I don’t think the photos show how powerful these falls are. As New Zealand’s most visited natural attraction this one is definitely worth the visit!

The next day on our way home we stopped at the Blue Spring walkway. This is one of the most popular walks in the Waikato at the moment. I would recommend every one visiting, its unlike anything I’ve ever seen!

The water is so pure, its where most of our bottled water comes from, and it stays 11 degrees year round. Still a bit cold for me to get in for a dip, but plenty of people do!

We took the longer walk which was about an hour and a half through paddocks and board walks. There is also a shorter 15 minute option if you are pressed for time.

This was the most perfect spot for a picnic lunch on our way back to Auckland. Was such a great weekend away, hopefully next time I get to stay a bit longer πŸ™‚
